A few hours before the elections on October 3 in Manitoba, a province located in the Canadian prairies with a population of about one and a half million, the New Democratic Party and the Liberal Party are trying to rally their supporters to vote for a new election.
The New Democratic Party held an event on October 1st that gathered hundreds of activists at a high school in Winnipeg. The leader of this formation, Wab Kinew, called for unity in his speech.
Kinew also indicated that this is the most important regional election of our lives and urged voters to exercise their right to vote.
In his twenty-minute speech, which he delivered only in English, he also highlighted his party's key commitments, among others, in the areas of health, reducing the cost of living, and combating crime.
He also referred to his party's promise to fund excavation work at the landfill in that province to find the remains of at least two Indigenous women who are victims of an alleged serial killer, as they all matter in this province.
Just hours earlier, the Liberals reiterated their message to voters to vote according to their values and to avoid the idea of voting for strategic reasons to defeat the Conservatives who are seeking re-election in the October 3 elections.
Liberal announcement regarding immigration...
The Liberal leader also announced measures to increase immigration to the province, improve services provided to immigrants, and reduce financial barriers to facilitate their settlement in the province.
If his party comes to power, Liberal Dougald Lamont wants to increase the French-speaking immigration target, encourage the arrival of skilled immigrants, and negotiate with Ottawa so that Manitoba can welcome more immigrants through the Manitoba Nominee Program.
The Liberal candidate also wants to negotiate with the federal government to improve family reunification.
Dougald Lamont also wants to reduce the application fee for registration in the Manitoba Nominee Program from $500 to $50.
The leader of the Progressive Conservative Party, Heather Stefanson, did not hold any campaigning activities this Sunday.
