Polish President Andrzej Duda has begun an overseas tour that includes visits to the United States and Canada for discussions with officials about international security, infrastructure, and energy.

According to aides to President Duda in Warsaw, as reported by Radio Poland in its English-language edition on Wednesday, Duda is scheduled to meet with several UN officials during this tour, led by the Secretary-General of the organization, António Guterres.

Mieszko Pawlak, one of the senior foreign policy aides to the Polish president, explained that the meetings with officials are expected to focus on security challenges in Poland, the Russian military operation in Ukraine, and the situation in the Middle East amid the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

The Polish president stated on Tuesday that he might have discussions with Donald Trump in New York, as Europe prepares for the possibility of the former U.S. president returning to the White House.

Following his visit to the United States, the Polish president is scheduled to head to Canada accompanied by First Lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda, where his agenda includes visits to Vancouver and Esquimalt, in addition to Edmonton, and talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Duda told reporters before leaving Warsaw that during his meeting with Trudeau, he wishes to discuss increasing NATO allies' defense spending from 2 to 3 percent of GDP, as this is a very important issue for building a European security system.
