The Lebanese army announced the thwarting of an attempt by about 1200 Syrians to cross the Lebanese-Syrian border illegally on different dates during this week, according to a statement from the Lebanese army today, Thursday, regarding efforts to combat human smuggling and illegal border crossing.
The Lebanese army had previously announced earlier this week that it thwarted an attempt by about 1100 Syrians to cross the land border between Lebanon and Syria over the past week, after thwarting attempts by more than 1550 Syrians to cross the land border during the last month.
The phenomenon of Syrians attempting to cross the land border has increased, which the Lebanese government described as the new Syrian displacement to Lebanon, and the Lebanese Cabinet is discussing the issue of border crossing in its session held today as part of an agenda of 27 items.
