A 16-year-old G2 driver is facing a speeding charge after being pulled over for driving 65 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 174 in eastern Ottawa.

The Ottawa Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police spent the Thanksgiving weekend targeting speeding and aggressive driving on roads across the National Capital Region.

Ottawa police said a 16-year-old was seen driving at 145 km/h in a construction zone along Highway 174 yesterday, Monday, where the speed limit is 80 km/h.

The police posted on platform X: "Not the best way to end a long weekend."

The reckless driving charge includes a 30-day license suspension, a 14-day vehicle impound, and a court date.

For its part, Ontario Provincial Police said officers in Grenville pulled over a driver going 54 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 416 on Monday.

This driver was found speeding at 164 km/h in a 110 km/h zone - Highway 416... passing a fully marked police car," said Ontario Provincial Police on platform X.

The police clarified that the driver now has a suspended license and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days, and it turned out the driver did not initially have a valid license.

The driver is facing charges of reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

On Sunday night, Ontario Provincial Police stopped a driver going 155 km/h on Highway 416 near Hunt Club Road.

Ontario Provincial Police stated on platform X: "The driver was also unlicensed and was stopped under the Highway Traffic Act and the Criminal Code, and the driver's vehicle, who had previously been convicted of driving under the influence, was impounded for 90 days."

Police say the driver is also facing charges of reckless driving, driving while prohibited, driving while suspended, and driving a motor vehicle - without a license.
