Chandra Arya, one of the candidates for the leadership of the Canadian Liberal Party, announced that he received a notice from the party stating that his candidacy for the leadership race was not approved. Arya said in a press statement that he was surprised by this decision, pointing out that the party told him he would not be able to run despite his ongoing efforts and negotiations with various factions within the party.
Arya explained that this decision came late in the nomination process, affecting his campaign preparations. He added that he had hoped for greater support from the party, especially from Members of Parliament and some active party members.
Despite this decision, Arya confirmed that he would continue to work on improving the situation within the party and advocating for the policy issues he believes in, but he noted that he would explore his future options if this is the end of his political career within the Liberal Party.
