Canada announced yesterday, Thursday, the reduction of its diplomatic mission in Iraq and the closure of its office in Erbil next year, as its mission within the international coalition comes to an end.
The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "Canada's Middle East Strategy, which was originally created to address the direct threat posed by ISIS in Iraq and Syria, and its effects on neighboring countries Lebanon and Jordan, will end in March 2025."
It noted that "when the strategy ends, Canada's diplomatic presence in Jordan and Iraq will be reduced, and our office in Erbil in the Kurdistan region will be closed."
Canada is a main member of the international coalition to fight the ISIS organization, which was formed in 2014 after the organization seized Mosul in northern Iraq.
