The American ambassador to Beirut, Dorothy Shea, called for the urgent election of a new president for Lebanon.

Shea stated in a special statement to the American Al-Hurra news channel on Thursday that "it is very important for all those in positions of power and decision-making in Beirut to put the interests of their country first, away from any personal or political ambitions."

The American diplomat emphasized the importance of choosing an effective government capable of implementing all the necessary reforms in Beirut, so that the Lebanese economy can regain its vitality and strength.

This statement comes amid international efforts to resolve the current political crisis in Lebanon, and it is scheduled for the French president's envoy, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to travel to Beirut next Monday to find urgent solutions to address the political crisis in the country.

The Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati had announced earlier today his support for the call for parliamentary dialogue and encouraged the gathering of political forces for serious consultations that lead to the swift election of a new president for the country, affirming that the priority is to end the presidential vacuum.
