Tesla said it is scheduled to resume production at its factory in Grünheide outside the German capital Berlin starting today after production was halted due to a shortage of parts caused by attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on ships in the Red Sea.
The American electric car manufacturer had stopped its vehicle production for nearly two weeks on January 29, due to attacks by the Yemeni Houthi militia on ships.
This forced cargo ships to alter their routes and use sea lanes around the southern tip of Africa, causing delays in the arrival of shipments.
Tesla said this led to a shortage of components without which cars cannot be completed.
The company started production at the factory nearly two years ago.
In the first phase of its expansion, it targeted producing 10,000 cars weekly in Grünheide. Recently, more than 6,000 cars have been manufactured weekly.
Tesla says that 12,500 people work at the factory.
