The Swiss singer Nemo won the sixty-eighth Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday evening with his song "The Code," which is an operatic ode to the singer's journey towards embracing his non-binary identity.
Nemo triumphed over Croatian Peppy Lasagna to claim the title by receiving the highest number of points from a group of national juries and viewers around the world.
The victory came in Malmö, Sweden, after a tumultuous year in the continental pop contest, which saw significant street protests against Israel's participation, turning the joyful musical celebration into a chaotic pressure cooker overshadowed by the war in Gaza.
Hours before the final, Dutch competitor Joost Klein was disqualified from the contest due to a backstage fight that the police were investigating.
