Heavy rains and floods in Sudan have resulted in the death of at least 80 people and others missing, prompting authorities to declare a state of emergency as entire cities were flooded and roads leading to hospitals and health centers were closed.
Thousands of homes were damaged, roads were cut off, and tens of thousands of residents were forced to flee to other areas, with expectations of further waves possibly affecting new areas, as waters submerged more than 86 villages in Al-Manaqil Governorate in Al-Jazeera State in the central part of the country, causing significant destruction, forcing authorities to declare the governorate a disaster area.
Sudan's Security and Defense Council had decided last Saturday to declare a state of emergency in the country for three months due to floods that have claimed the lives of 99 people this year, according to the Sudanese official news agency.
