The Egyptian authorities warned of the dangers of the storm Daniel after it reached the Libyan coasts coming from Greece. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority revealed that cyclone Daniel hit the Libyan shores a few hours ago, causing heavy rainfall in addition to thunderstorms, high wind speeds, and wave heights exceeding 4 meters.
The meteorological report indicated that Libya experienced a difficult day due to cyclone Daniel, prompting the Libyan authorities to raise the state of emergency in all affected cities. It noted that the remnants of cyclone Daniel would reach western Egypt tomorrow, Monday, after losing most of its strength and becoming a deep low accompanied by rain and active winds stirring sand and dust in areas of the northwestern coast, the northern Delta, northern Upper Egypt, and parts of Greater Cairo and the canal cities.
The meteorological authority expects the country to experience windy conditions tomorrow, Monday, which could stir up sand in most parts of the republic, with chances of moderate to heavy thunderstorms, especially in Salloum, Matrouh, and Siwa, extending in the evening to areas of Alexandria, where it may be moderate at times.
The authority added that moderate to thunderous rainfall may continue until Tuesday, September 12, 2023, in scattered areas of the northwestern coast and northern Delta, with the rain gradually affecting areas of southern Delta and the canal cities, but it will be light to moderate rain. Light rain is expected to extend to areas of Greater Cairo.
It was noted that the rainfall would decrease to be light to moderate in areas of the northern coast, northern Delta, and the canal cities. The light rain is expected to extend to areas of southern Delta, the Gulf of Suez, and central Sinai.
The meteorological authority forecasted that the maximum temperature tomorrow in Greater Cairo would reach 37 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature from Tuesday until the end of this week would range between 34 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Storm Daniel caused the deaths of 14 people due to the strongest rainstorm witnessed in Greece since data recording began in 1930, with three other people still missing, according to authorities.
Storm Daniel struck Greece for three days, starting last Tuesday, leaving behind new traces of destruction after the lethal wildfires, causing the collapse of houses and bridges, destroying roads and electricity poles, drowning animals, and killing crops in the fertile Thessaly plain.
