The Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed some Canadians waiting to leave Gaza amid the war between Israel and Hamas that they will be able to start entering Egypt via the Rafah crossing on Tuesday morning.
According to an email shared by a Canadian citizen in Gaza, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs encouraged Canadians who received the email to arrive as soon as possible.
The Canadian government's email stated that the crossing will open at 9 AM.
The email said: Please prepare your travel documents (passports, ID cards, birth certificates, or any important documents) and your personal belongings. Our consular staff will be present on the Egyptian side of the border to facilitate your transfer to Cairo by bus.
The Egyptian government will also allow those crossing the border to stay there for up to 72 hours, according to the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"While you are in Cairo, we will provide you with food, accommodation, and essentials. We will also assist you in your journey to Canada, which you will fund yourself," the Canadian government added that financial assistance in the form of emergency travel loans will be available to those who need it.
