The Jewish elementary school in Bayt Chaya Mushka, located in the North York neighborhood of Canada, was shot at on Saturday, raising concerns within the Jewish community.

The Canadian police stated that this incident, which is the second within a few months, did not result in any injuries among the Jewish community, according to the French Press Agency.

According to the police, shots were fired "from a car" towards the school around 4 a.m., and there was no one inside the school at the time of the incident, as no injuries were reported, and the shooting only broke one window.

The police added that they are currently investigating whether this incident is connected to a similar previous incident that occurred last May, where the same school was targeted.

Concern and Shock

Commenting on the incident, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed his concern, stating: "My heart goes out to the students, staff, and parents who must be feeling terror and shock."

Trudeau further added in a post on X that "Anti-Semitism is a disgusting and dangerous form of hatred, and we will not tolerate it."

Increase in Anti-Semitic Incidents

Reports indicate an increase in anti-Semitic incidents in Canada, as the organization B'nai Brith Canada reported that the number of these incidents has more than doubled between 2022 and 2023.

As part of efforts to enhance safety, the Toronto police announced that they have increased their presence in Jewish neighborhoods over the past two weeks, noting that they will continue these measures to protect the community.

Previous Incidents

It is worth noting that the shooting incident at the Jewish school in Montreal, Quebec, which occurred in November 2023, repeated twice within a week, but also did not result in any injuries.

This series of incidents reflects the growing challenges facing the Jewish community in Canada, especially in the context of ongoing political events in the Middle East.
