Lina, a relative of the late Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, said that the top diplomat in President Joe Biden’s administration refused her request to pressure for a full American investigation into her killing.
Lina Abu Akleh confirmed that Secretary of State Antony Blinken and American officials rejected in meetings with her this week providing any more information than they had already announced about how the Americans arrived at the killing findings revealed earlier this month.
A senior official in the American administration confirmed that the United States will not open its own investigation into the journalist’s killing on May 11.
The US State Department announced that the bullet that led to Abu Akleh’s death most likely came from the Israeli side. It said that "Secretary Antony Blinken continues to discuss the matter with both the Palestinian and Israeli parties."
The US department added that "the bullet that killed her most likely came from the Israeli soldiers’ side, and there is no indication that it was fired intentionally."
