Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz issued three royal orders on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, including appointing Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as Prime Minister and making a cabinet reshuffle.
The royal orders also included appointing Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz as Minister of Defense after he held the position of Deputy Minister of Defense.
According to the official Saudi Press Agency, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman retained the position of Minister of Energy, Prince Faisal bin Farhan retained the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed Al-Jadaan retained the position of Minister of Finance, and Khalid Al-Falih retained the position of Minister of Investment.
The official agency also explained that this royal order of making the Crown Prince the Prime Minister is "an exception to the provision of Article (fifty-six) of the Basic Law of Governance, and the related provisions contained in the Cabinet system."
