Power was cut off to more than 106,000 homes in Quebec, where the Canadian Environment Agency reported that nearly 25 cm of snow fell across the province.
Montreal is among the most affected areas in terms of snowfall, and the meteorological agency expects a few more centimeters to fall.
Snowfall is expected in total amounts ranging from 20 to 30 cm, according to severe weather warnings issued by the Canadian Environment Agency: "The rapid accumulation of snow will make travel difficult, there may be a significant impact on traffic during rush hour in urban areas, and heavy snowfall accumulation may break tree branches."
According to Hydro Quebec, the areas that experienced the highest number of outages as of 8:45 AM include Montérégie (47,927) and Estrie (32,733).
In Montreal, power was cut off to 16,615 homes out of 1,089,025.
Snowfall is expected to stop by the end of Monday, and the weather for the rest of the week is also expected to be sunny but cold.
All schools and centers have also been announced to be closed, and there is no daycare.
