The auction house Im Kinsky announced that the painting of Miss Lister, by the famous Austrian painter Gustav Klimt, was sold for 30 million euros.

Im Kinsky, which showcased the painting last January before putting it up for auction last night, explained that the painting was believed to have been lost for a long time but was actually hanging in a private villa near Vienna for decades.

The house estimated the value of the painting to be between 30 and 50 million euros, but it ultimately sold at the lower estimated price, which is significantly less than the price that another Klimt painting sold for in London in June 2023, which was 86 million euros.

Claudia Mörth Jasser, head of the modern art department at Im Kinsky, said, "This event is historic; no similar work has ever been sold in the country from which the painter hails."

She added, "No one expected a painting of such great importance that had been missing for a hundred years to reappear, while the last record for an Austrian work was for a Flemish painting sold in 2010 for 7 million euros."
