The Kremlin added new names to the list of Canadian politicians banned from traveling to Russia, in response to Canadian sanctions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry issued on Tuesday this week a list of more than 300 Canadian figures banned from entering Russian territory.
In the province of Saskatchewan in the Canadian Midwest, the list included the local MPs Michael Kram and former federal Conservative Party leader MP Andrew Scheer, as well as the former president of the Canadian-Ukrainian Congress in Saskatchewan, John Denisk.
Commenting on the Russian decision, MP Kram says he was surprised to learn that Russia put him on the blacklist and that this maneuver is completely ridiculous.
This parliamentarian recently created a website to denounce the Russian invasion of Ukraine and promote solidarity with the Ukrainian people.
As for the former Canadian Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, he has been banned from traveling to Russia since the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
The former president of the Canadian-Ukrainian Congress was not surprised to be put on the travel ban list to Russia. In recent weeks and before the end of his term at the head of the congress, Denisk organized several awareness campaigns and fundraising efforts in the province to support Ukraine.
It is worth noting that eleven members of the Canadian-Ukrainian Congress across Canada are banned from entering Russian territory.
