IKEA says it has notified the Canadian Privacy Commissioner after a data breach involving personal information of nearly 95,000 customers.

In a statement submitted to Canadian media sources, an official from the furniture sales company said some personal information of its customers appeared in the "public search" results conducted by a colleague at IKEA Canada between March 1 and March 3 of this year using IKEA's customer database.

It stated that no financial or banking information was involved in the breach.

An official from the company added, "At IKEA, the security of our customers' personal information is of utmost importance, and we have proactively notified the Office of the Canadian Privacy Commissioner about this incident, as well as the potential customers. We have also reviewed and updated internal processes to prevent such incidents in the future." "No action is required from our customers at this time."

In a letter sent to affected customers, IKEA Canada stated that the data potentially compromised included customers' names, email addresses, phone numbers, and postal codes. It said that customers' IKEA loyalty program numbers may also have been compromised.
