RBC Bank terminated the employment of CFO Nadine Ahan after an investigation into a personal relationship she allegedly had with another employee.

In a statement released Friday evening, RBC said it recently became aware of the allegations concerning Ahan and began an internal review, while also consulting an external legal advisor to investigate.

It stated that the investigation found evidence that Ahan had a "close undisclosed personal relationship" with another employee who received preferential treatment, including promotions and compensation increases, which violates the bank's code of conduct.

Both Ahan and the other employee were terminated following the review.

A bank spokesperson told CBC News: "Based on the review of the evidence, we terminated both individuals on April 5."

As policy, we do not comment on specific matters related to individual employees, past or present.

RBC confirmed the investigation found no evidence of any individual's behavior affecting the bank's previously issued financial statements, strategy, or financial or business performance.

Catherine Gibson, who recently served as Senior Vice President of Finance and Controller at RBC, was appointed interim CFO, effective immediately, while a search for a permanent successor is underway.
