Bill 96 imposes the French language as a fundamental requirement on all immigrants upon their arrival in Quebec, including asylum seekers.

Skilled workers, business people, refugees, and asylum seekers, as well as all immigrants arriving in Quebec soon, without discrimination, will find themselves facing a new rule: they will receive responses from the administration only in French.

The parliament will adopt this provision from Bill 96, which was presented by the government of François Legault a few months ago before the National Assembly, despite the criticisms that followed this law.

For his part, Simon Jolin-Barrette, Quebec's Minister of Justice and responsible for the French language, confirmed that "the province of Quebec speaks French, and those wishing to enter its territory must speak French directly from their arrival."
