The Canadian newspaper "National Post" reported that the country's authorities will consider preparing a law allowing the sale of Russian assets in Canada, belonging to Russian citizens subject to sanctions.
The proposed law also grants the Minister of Foreign Affairs the right to require individuals and entities to provide information "related to the imposition and enforcement of sanctions."
According to the provisions included in the draft law, the Canadian government has not only granted itself the right to freeze assets and seize property but will also grant itself the right to sell assets owned by persons subject to Western sanctions.
As of Tuesday, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1100 individuals and Russian, Ukrainian, and Belarusian entities deemed close to the Russian authorities or related to the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
