The Quebec government announced the establishment of an advisory group to study educational and ethical issues related to the use of artificial intelligence in universities.

In a press release on Wednesday, the province stated that the group would include representatives from post-secondary institutions, student associations and unions, and experts in the use of artificial intelligence in higher education.

Higher Education Minister Pascal Dufour stated that the new group would work on developing a "shared vision" to guide the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in post-secondary institutions.

The group has also been tasked with helping to identify strategic priorities for the use of artificial intelligence and implementing technology projects in universities and other post-secondary schools.

The government added that its goal is to leverage artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance academic success while developing digital skills so that students can appreciate the limits of these new technologies.

Mario Asselin, Dufour's parliamentary assistant, stated that artificial intelligence is evolving rapidly and it is important for universities to know how to properly handle the automation of data analysis.
