The Minister of Education in the Quebec government, Bernard Drainville, announced that Quebec is still looking for 5704 teachers for primary and secondary grades.
Although the number is large, it is lower compared to last year, when Quebec still needed 8558 teachers as of August 23, 2023.
The Minister of Learning mentioned that the decrease of more than 33% is due to the agreement reached by the government with teacher unions last winter.
The minister stated at a press conference held in Montreal that of the 5704 vacancies in primary and secondary schools across the province, there are 1406 full-time positions and 4298 part-time positions.
According to media and press sources, hiring in the educational sector will continue at a rate of 300 to 400 employees daily, so the government remains hopeful that the situation will improve more quickly.
The minister indicated that the recruitment campaign will continue, aiming to find one teacher for each class by the end of this month.
On the other hand, the Minister of Education's office announced that it will work to provide resources to support classes in 14000 primary classrooms, and the minister Drainville did not specify the number of vacancies at the support staff level.
Meanwhile, the city announced its need for 200 93 teachers this year, which is 3700 more than last year.
