Prince William, the heir to the British throne, called today, Tuesday, for an end to the fighting in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible.

William did not go as far as calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza while the House of Commons prepares to vote on the issue on Wednesday. The message, written in white on a black background, was placed on William's account on X, formerly known as Twitter.

William said: "Only sometimes when we face the huge scale of human suffering is the importance of lasting peace highlighted."

William used cautious language focusing on global humanity rather than taking sides. The British Foreign Office was informed of the statement and its links.

His statement also referred to the "devastating human cost" since the Hamas-led attack on October 7 in southern Israel and the "urgent need to increase humanitarian support for Gaza." The United Nations warns of worsening malnutrition in parts of Gaza as only a little aid is allowed into the territory.

The prince plans to meet relief workers active in the area, and separately join a discussion in a Jewish synagogue with youth of different religions who fight antisemitism.

William made the first official royal trip to Israel and the occupied West Bank in 2018. The trip, carried out on behalf of the government, included separate talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

William said: "Even in the darkest times, we must not succumb to the counsel of despair." He added: "I still hold on to hope for a brighter future and refuse to give up on that."
