A woman has been taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a fire broke out in a home in Whitby, according to Durham Regional Police.
The police said the fire erupted in the area of Gerard Road and Dryden Street, near Taunton East Road and Thixon North Road, on Tuesday shortly before 4:30 a.m.
According to the police, one resident suffered serious burns and was taken to a trauma center in Toronto for treatment.
The police stated that a dog died in the fire.
Durham Regional Police confirmed that the fire is not believed to be suspicious and that officers will soon clear the scene.
