International students whose post-graduation work permits expire this year are demanding from Federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller an extension of their permits by 18 months.
Students are pressuring the Ministry of Immigration to approve this matter, and this request has received about 3000 signatures on a petition stating this demand. The federal government had extended post-graduation work permits, which were completed during the past three years
during the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
Minister of Immigration Miller recently stated that he will study in the coming period the possibility of setting a maximum
number of international students admitted to Canada.
IRCC had also decided some amendments as of the beginning of this January, which include doubling the financial requirements necessary for the cost of living for international students residing in Canada, by providing proof that they have savings of $20,635 in addition to the first year of tuition fees, travel expenses, and matters related to claims for extending international students' work permits.
IRCC has stated that procedures are in place through which those whose post-graduation permits have expired can apply for a new open work permit for up to 18 months.
