The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said that a young man from Ottawa was arrested and charged with committing terrorism-related crimes allegedly targeting the Jewish people.
The police said that the young man arrested on Friday is accused of facilitating terrorist activity by providing instructional materials related to an explosive substance.
He was also accused of instructing a person to carry out a terrorist act against "Jewish people".
The police added that no further information about the suspect can be disclosed due to his age.
In a press release, the national police force said it has noticed a disturbing trend of violent extremism and the terrorist use of the internet, including among youth, and urges adults in positions of authority to monitor early warning signs of extremism.
These actions include dehumanizing others, anti-government extremist attitudes, and clear statements of intent to commit acts of violence.
Politicians, police forces, and advocacy groups have been sounding the alarm about the alleged rise in hate crimes against Jewish and Muslim communities since the deadly surprise attack by Hamas on October 7 in Israel, which led to that state's military offensive in Gaza.
