The leader of the Canadian Conservative Party, "Pierre Poilievre," called on his country's Liberal government on Friday, October 11, 2024, to include the Houthi group on the "Canadian terrorism list."
"Poilievre" stated in a statement released to local media that the Houthis are a "front for the Revolutionary Guard, which is the largest organized terrorist group in the world."
He added: "The murderous Iranian regime uses groups like the Houthis and Hezbollah to spread violence and terrorism around the world, and the Houthis can operate in our country, but it is not certain whether they can do so since we do not have the laws to stop them or even monitor them."
He pointed out that designating the Houthis as "terrorists" would "allow Canadian banks to freeze any assets they have in Canada, and it allows the police to charge anyone who supports them financially or materially."
On January 17, 2024, the United States announced the reclassification of the Houthis as a "specially designated global terrorist organization," after having removed them from the designation in 2021.
The Canadian Conservative Party is one of the largest parties in Canada and is considered an important element in shaping the country's policies and decisions, led by "Poilievre," who is a prominent figure in Canadian politics.
