The police arrested dozens of people today, Saturday, as protesters resumed their confrontation with the police as part of an intensive arrest campaign against the "Freedom Convoy" demonstrations.

As of early Saturday afternoon, Ottawa police said they had carried out 47 additional arrests, in addition to more than 100 on Friday.

The police also say they have towed 38 vehicles since Friday.

The parliamentary precinct in Ottawa has been placed in a "safe isolation" status, which the Parliamentary Protective Service says limits movement between buildings but is not locked down.

However, anyone who is not an employee in or near the Parliament building is asked to avoid the area.

Ottawa's interim police chief Steve Bell spoke to the media at a press conference later this afternoon and said the police are determined to end the protests completely.

The fourth consecutive weekend of protests began Saturday morning and was confined to a much smaller scale than other demonstrations seen in recent weeks.

On the other hand, it was clear that the authorities were taking a tougher stance against protesters Saturday morning.

On the other hand, the police and politicians have often described the demonstrations as an illegal "occupation."
