In a statement received by Arab Canada News, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged a person with several criminal offenses related to the kidnapping and disappearance of Elnaz Hajtemiri in January.

The police reported that 37-year-old Elnaz – who is also known as Tamiri – was kidnapped on January 12, 2022, from a home in Wasaga Beach, Ontario by three suspects dressed as police officers, but not in actual official uniforms, believed to be riding in a white Lexus RX sports car.

Just three months ago, the main OPP director along with Persian-speaking OPP members and Arabic-speaking OPP members summarized the known investigation activities up to that date and issued a video request for help from Elnaz’s mother in Iran.

The next day, York Regional Police charged two people with criminal offenses related to violent assault and attempted kidnapping of Elnaz in Richmond Hill, Ontario in December 2021.

Following further investigation with Mohamed Lilo, 35, from Brossard, Quebec, he was charged with kidnapping (related to the January 12, 2022, Wasaga Beach incident) contrary to section 279 (1)(a) of the Canadian Criminal Code.

He is also charged with attempted murder contrary to section 239 (1)(b) of the Canadian Criminal Code, and attempted kidnapping contrary to section 279 (1)(a) of the Canadian Criminal Code relating to the attack on Elnaz in Richmond Hill in December 2021.

The accused is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on July 13, 2022, and the victim’s location has not yet been determined.

Police reported that Elnaz Hajtemiri’s height is approximately 160 cm (5'3").

She is slim and her hair was black down to her shoulders until it was cut shorter before she was kidnapped.

Elnaz immigrated from Iran to Canada less than four years ago.
