The capital Ottawa announced the opening of part of the famous skating trail on the Rideau Canal starting at 9 a.m.
The National Coordination Committee stated in a tweet on the X app that we are now in the final icy touches stage, and the long-awaited official opening of the trail, which is located at a distance of 1.9 kilometers between Pretoria Bridge and Bank Street, is scheduled to be officially opened.
The NCC committee also stated that it seeks to open more sections, while waiting for the ice conditions to improve to become safer, as mentioned in its statement welcoming visitors and skaters.
It is worth noting that the skating rink was not opened during last winter, due to the unusually high temperatures; as about 30 cm of ice is needed to open the skating path.
