More than 400 people died on Ontario roads patrolled by the Provincial Police in 2023, the first time in 16 years.
According to data provided by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), 404 people died following fatal collision accidents on the province's highway system and in municipalities where the OPP have jurisdiction.
Therefore, this data does not represent all road deaths in the province. For example, the Toronto Police recorded 44 people on its territory in 2023.
The number of fatal collision accidents also exceeded 350 for the first time since 2007.
At least 7,480 people have also died on Ontario roads over the past twenty years.
