After more than 50 days of the strike, both Hydro Ottawa and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 636, which represents the workers, agreed to non-binding mediation to help resolve the ongoing issue of wage increases.

Price Conrad, the CEO and President of Hydro Ottawa, stated on Tuesday during Sam Laprade's show, "The officials sat down with the union, listened to their concerns, and discussed all safety issues."

Regarding wages, Hydro Ottawa said its latest offer provides a cumulative wage increase of 16.77 percent over five years, with an average annual wage rate increase of 3.35 percent.

The company also stated that its offer included the potential for an increase of up to 1 percent during the last two years of the contract, which would raise the cumulative increase to nearly 18 percent over the five-year period.

According to Mike Hall, the business representative in the union, they are working to secure Hydro Ottawa employees in the top ten positions in the province in terms of wages. However, Hydro Ottawa did not agree.

Hall explained, "If they do not want to commit to the top ten, grant us some protection against inflation, and again, they said the board would not allow them to do that."

While both sides agreed to non-binding mediation, there is no word on when that might occur.
