The Liberal Party issued a statement earlier this month regarding combating hate, a copy of which was sent to Arab Canada News, stating:

There is no place for hate in Canada. That's why our government is investing $273.6 million in the Canadian Action Plan to Combat Hate so we can create safer communities for everyone. The measures include:

More funding for the Narrative Change Fund to reflect diversity in our arts and culture

$25 million to support hate crime prevention programs and strengthen cultural connections and community activities

Tackling the Rise of Islamophobia

Canada has recently witnessed a worrying increase in anti-Islam hate, emphasizing the urgent need for collective action. The government is committed to protecting Muslim communities from intolerance, hate, and religious discrimination. That’s why we are investing $7.3 million over six years, plus an ongoing amount of $1.1 million to continue supporting Canada’s Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia.

Halal Mortgages

The 2024 budget makes it easier for Muslim families to buy homes by exploring new measures to expand access to halal mortgages. Consultations have already begun, and the government will provide an update in Fall 2024.

International Humanitarian Aid

Canada has a long history of supporting humanitarian efforts worldwide, ensuring we help the most vulnerable. The 2024 budget will provide an additional $350 million to enhance Canada’s ability to respond to crises around the world and fulfill our role.

Legal Aid for Immigration and Refugees

The federal government is providing $273.7 million to continue supporting legal aid for immigration and refugees to ensure that newcomers to Canada – who often flee violence, war, or persecution – can access the legal assistance they deserve when dealing with the justice system.

Public Message to the Muslim Community

The 2024 budget aims to create safer and more livable communities for Canadian Muslims by:

Exploring new measures to expand access to halal mortgage loans to facilitate home purchases for Muslim families.

Tackling the rising Islamophobia in Canada by increasing funding for the Canadian Special Representative on Combating Islamophobia.

Protecting our community, which includes places of worship, by making the Security Infrastructure Program permanent and increasing funding by an additional $32 million.

Investing $273.6 million in our new anti-hate program to combat racism, support victims of hate crimes, and work with law enforcement to better address hate crimes.
