According to the "space" website, NASA's spacecraft detected signs of activity on the icy moon, and the survey revealed nearby low-albedo deposits that may be associated with subsurface liquid water. These spots may be linked to plumes believed to be venting water.

Although this is not conclusive, water represents a compelling target for future Europa missions such as NASA's Clipper mission and Europa JOICE to investigate current surface activity and possibly confirm it on Europa.

The JUICE observatory was launched in April 2023 and will arrive at Jupiter in December 2031. Europe Clipper is also scheduled to launch on October 6 this year on a Falcon Heavy rocket.

NASA’s Juno spacecraft flew close to Jupiter’s moon Europa, and the spacecraft’s Star Reference Unit (SRU), a star camera designed to help Juno determine its onboard position, was used to survey the moon’s surface with high precision while illuminated by Jupiter’s glow or scattered sunlight outside Jupiter.
