The Moroccan army announced the death of 100 victims so far due to the earthquakes that struck the country.

On the other hand, media outlets, which we could not verify, reported an increase in the number of victims to 151 people and that the numbers are still expected to rise.

A Moroccan official confirmed on Saturday that dozens of people lost their lives due to the earthquake, which reached a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, mostly in areas difficult to access south of Marrakech, according to reports from Reuters.

France Press reported from local media that at least 30 people have been killed, noting that 27 people died in the tourist area of Marrakech, located 320 km south of the capital, Rabat, and four in the province of Ouarzazate to the south, as reported by local sources in the two regions, while the authorities did not provide any official death toll.

The Moroccan website Hespress reported that four people died after homes collapsed due to the strong earthquake.

The site cited sources described as "informed" about the killing of four people in the province of Ouarzazate after homes collapsed on them due to the earthquake.

Highly informed sources stated that the province of Ouarzazate recorded, up until the writing of these lines, the deaths of four people after homes collapsed on them due to the powerful earthquake that struck the province.

A free correspondent reported that sources from villages in the Al-Haouz and Asni region (about 50 km from Marrakech) confirmed that there were casualties due to the complete collapse of houses as a result of the earthquake.

The National Institute of Geophysics recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale in the Al-Haouz province, according to reports from the official Moroccan news agency.

The institute indicated in a warning bulletin that the epicenter of the tremor was identified in the municipality of Ighil belonging to the province.

The institute confirmed that the tremor was recorded at a depth of 8 kilometers, at the intersection of latitude 30.961 degrees north and longitude 8.413 degrees west.

The tremor occurred around 11:11 PM on Friday, according to the institute.

In response to citizens' fears of aftershocks, Youssef Timoulali, an official at the National Institute of Geophysics, stated that the earthquake may recur but not with the same intensity, as it has already reached its maximum level.

Timoulali confirmed that the aftershocks will be minor and will not be felt by residents of inland cities, but will be felt in areas adjacent to the epicenter of the earthquake near Marrakech.

The spokesperson emphasized that the recorded tremors have caused damages in Marrakech and Agadir that have not yet been assessed, as buildings collapsed and walls cracked, according to reports from "Al-Hurra".

A report published by the institute regarding the earthquake indicated that the seismic intensity may vary "from one location to another and from one building to another depending on the type of building, its height, and the nature of the soil."
