International Development Minister Ahmed Hussein arrived in Manila after his visit to Indonesia on Thursday to strengthen relations between Canada and the Philippines as part of Canada's comprehensive Indo-Pacific strategy.
On the same day, Hussein met with several leaders of the Philippine government.
On Friday, Hussein met with Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Development Authority and Secretary Ma Antonia Yulo Loyzaga of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, who reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Philippine projects in climate action, disaster resilience, agriculture, and health.
Hussein also did not miss meeting with Canadian Ambassador David Hartman and the Filipino and Canadian staff at the Canadian embassy. He went to the embassy to assist with preparations for the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and the Philippines in 2024.
On Saturday, Hussein visited Auro Chocolate store, a chocolate shop supported by Canada.
Auro Chocolate manufactures chocolate from tree to bar from Mindanao Island with the help of indigenous peoples, women, and youth. The company aids the local community by providing employment opportunities for the mentioned groups including farmers. They also follow climate-smart practices to combat climate change.
