A fire early in the morning caused damages ranging between 3 and 4 million dollars to a cement plant north of Lethbridge.
Officials said emergency crews were called to the Lafarge Canada facility, located at 530 Ninth Ave. North, at around 3:08 AM on Saturday.
The spokesperson for the city of Lethbridge wrote in a statement that once they arrived at the scene, firefighters found a building on the premises engulfed in flames.
"Crews from five stations arrived at the scene to find a large warehouse building filled with fires and flames coming from most of the roof,"
explained, "The strong winds increased the flame of the smoke and embers and spread it to the east of the building, and the fire also ignited several trees."
Police explained that the strong winds hindered firefighters' ability to combat the fire, but it was eventually brought under control within a few hours.
Officials said homes east of the site had to be evacuated due to the danger posed by smoke and embers.
No one was injured in the fire, and crews remained on site to monitor the situation.
