The Royal Canadian Mounted Police issued a statement regarding the attempted running over of worshipers outside a mosque in British Columbia, stating "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Surrey have identified all parties involved in an incident outside a Surrey mosque and conducted interviews with them, which was reported to the police on April 27.

Adding, all individuals, including the six victims/witnesses and two suspects, are cooperating with the police.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said, the investigation found that this was not a hate crime motivated by racism.

The police clarified that all occupants of the suspicious vehicle were teenagers belonging to the Muslim community.

Work will continue to resolve this matter through existing mechanisms either involving the British Columbia prosecution service or through out-of-court measures, using a restorative justice approach that would allow all parties to meet and express the impact this incident had on them and the larger community."

A speeding car tried to run over a group of worshipers after they left a mosque in British Columbia, western Canada.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims published a horrifying video of a yellow car recklessly driving towards a group of people, and when it approached them, two people quickly jumped away from the road, then the car changed direction and moved away from them.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims commented on the video, stating that although there is no evidence so far indicating that "Islamophobia is the motive behind the incident," it called on the British Columbia police to quickly conduct investigations and bring the perpetrator to justice.

A local newspaper reported that the police managed to reach one of the suspects, and that they threw a liquid substance on the worshipers before the car veered off the road and headed towards another group of worshipers.

The newspaper added that the vehicle appeared multiple times back and forth, which increased speculation that it was a deliberate incident, and considered that such incidents cannot be tolerated after a truck ran over a Muslim family in London.

Politicians and activists criticized the incident, with Jenny Sims, a member of the state legislature, saying “I am horrified by these hate acts, hate incidents like these have no place in Canada, stop doing that, as everyone has the right to worship.”

Journalist Stephen Zahou pointed to the recent repetition of Islamophobia incidents in Canada, saying “In fact, this type of incident is happening at a rate beyond all expectations about the state of intimidation and hostility towards Islam in this country, and they are no longer rare at all.”

Activist Sarah Mushtaq said, “This is completely dysfunctional behavior, even if there are no explicit hate motives found, it is absolutely crazy to drive at high speed towards pedestrians, also, it has not been a year since the London attack.”

Mohamed Shafi tweeted, denouncing “This is unbelievable. How long must we tolerate this?”.
