Two Edmonton police officers were shot dead early Thursday morning.

Dozens of police officers are present at the scene near the Inglewood and Woodcroft neighborhoods in Edmonton.

The police are also stationed near Baywood Apartments at 114 Avenue and 132 Street; however, the Edmonton Police Service has not confirmed the exact location of the incident involving its members.

EPS said a press conference will be held later today.

In the same context, a resident of Baywood Apartments told CTV News Edmonton that he did not hear anything but was surprised overnight when he found the police outside his home in the morning as he was leaving for work.

Tom Diggle said, "It's scary. I am very worried about my child's safety. I haven't faced this problem here before. We are trying to get out of here, from this neighborhood, because it is always crowded with problems, but not to this extent. It is very concerning."

Meanwhile, the police have closed 132 Street and restricted access to Baywood Apartments.

The investigation is still ongoing, and the police have not yet disclosed the reasons for the incident or the identities of the parties involved.
