The government of Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe accused Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of damaging relations with India.

In a message issued by Premier Moe today, Monday, Saskatchewan's Minister of Trade, Jeremy Harrison, stated that Justin Trudeau is putting India, Saskatchewan's largest export market, at risk for local political gains.

Harrison claimed that the province learned through media reports that Canada had suspended trade talks with India.

He added that a letter was sent at the end of July to Canadian Minister of Trade Mary Ng, and no response has been received so far.

The Liberal government has not provided a clear reason for halting trade talks. Canadian press also requested a comment from Minister Ng regarding Harrison's message.

At the end of this week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau held a brief meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 summit. In a statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Modi expressed serious concerns to Trudeau about anti-India activities carried out by extremist elements, particularly Sikh separatists, in Canada.

It is noted that about one third of the Canadian pulses exported to India pass through Saskatchewan.
