Saudi Arabia announced today, Friday, August 26, 2022, the death of one of its citizens in Morocco, after he was "assaulted leading to his death by a group of people," according to a statement published by the Kingdom's embassy in Morocco via Twitter, based on information it received from the competent authorities in Rabat.

In the same context, news sites reported that the victim was killed on Tuesday, August 23, at a hotel in Morocco following a fight with a number of people.

Quoting the victim’s uncle, who said they received "the news of his nephew’s death," noting that he had gone to Morocco accompanying a friend who was sick with cancer for treatment.

He pointed out that the nephew’s friends confirmed to him that the incident took place at the same hotel where he was staying.

He also indicated that "the Kingdom's embassy in Rabat contacted them and promised to finalize the procedures for transferring the deceased’s body back to the country," noting that they wished to travel to Morocco to follow up on the procedures, but the embassy informed them that there was no need for that.

The victim’s uncle called on the Moroccan authorities to intensify investigations "to uncover the circumstances of his nephew’s murder, and to punish those involved in committing it," according to the same source.

In the same vein, the Saudi embassy confirmed in its statement that the case "is still under investigation by the Moroccan Public Prosecution, after the arrest of the assailants to complete the investigation proceedings."

It also emphasized that it "is closely following up with the competent authorities in Morocco on the case’s developments, and it has full confidence in Moroccan justice."

On the other hand, the embassy’s statement pointed out that Saudi Arabia is coordinating with the Moroccan authorities to transfer the deceased citizen’s body to the Kingdom, after completing the necessary procedures.
