The agency "Tasnim" affiliated with the "Revolutionary Guard" announced that a representative of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was the target of an assassination attempt on Friday, while the motives remain unknown.
Tasnim stated that the cleric Mohammad Sabahi, one of the representatives of the Iranian Supreme Leader in Fars Province, was shot in the head after an attack by an unknown individual.
The agency quoted an official from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences that Sabahi was transferred to the hospital "in critical and serious condition."
The "ISNA" agency reported that Sabahi is undergoing surgery in one of the hospitals in Kazeroon. According to what "Tasnim" reported, Sabahi was subjected to the assassination attempt after Friday prayers in Kazeroon, while the "assassin was neutralized immediately," and it indicated that he "has no connection to what is known as veterans," amid conflicting reports about his identity and motives.
The spokesperson for the policy council of the Supreme Leader's office said: "We urge people not to pay attention to any unfounded rumors about the assassination attempt on Sabahi."
