The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the calls made by France, Germany, and Britain, or the group known as the European Troika, for Tehran to exercise restraint regarding its response to Israel "lack political logic and contradict the principles of international law."
Earlier on Monday, the White House announced that U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with the leaders of France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom to discuss calming tensions in the Middle East, a ceasefire, and emphasized their support for Israel in the face of any Iranian threat, while simultaneously calling for the need to deliver aid to Gaza.
The leaders of the five nations confirmed in a joint statement issued by the White House on Monday that they "support a call from the United States, Qatar, and Egypt to resume ceasefire talks in Gaza, to reach an agreement as soon as possible," noting that there is "no time left."
The joint statement stressed support for Israel in facing any Iranian threat and urged the distribution and delivery of aid in Gaza, according to Al Sharq News Channel.
The statement added: "We urged Iran to stop its ongoing threats to launch a military attack on Israel and discussed the dire consequences for the security of the region should such an attack occur."
The region faces the risk of a wider war in the Middle East following the killing of the head of Hamas's political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh in Iran, and the military leader of the Lebanese Hezbollah group, Fuad Shukr in Beirut, prompting Tehran to vow revenge and a military response without specifying when it would fulfill its promise.
