The ski and ice skating hill at Earl Bales Park in Toronto opened for this season today.

According to a city press release issued on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday, the main hills at the ski and ice skating center in the park, located at 4169 Bathurst Street, will be open to residents and visitors.

The city stated that the racing centers and southern hills will remain closed as more snowfall is needed to build their base layers.

The city also urged those planning to visit the hill to check conditions before leaving in its release, as daily operations, including opening or closing the center, depend on weather and snowfall.

The hills usually remain open until mid-March, but the season length depends on the weather.

The center also offers ski, snowboard, poles, boots, and helmet rentals with a valid lift ticket. Renters must show valid government-issued ID.

The statement said helmets are required for all participants in lessons on the hill and are highly recommended for customers of all ages.

The city charges $43.50 for a daily chairlift ticket, while hourly tickets can be purchased at varying prices depending on age.

The cost to use the rope tow, which provides access to the beginners’ hill, is $14 per day for all ages.

Seasonal ski memberships can also be purchased in person, allowing access to the main hill, southern hill, racing hill, beginners’ hill, chairlift, and rope tows. More information on tickets, permits, service alerts, and rentals can be found on the city's website.

More than 50 public skating rinks in Toronto began opening to the public in early December.
