The condition of heart patients during Ramadan varies from person to person based on their health status and their ability to fast. Some find great health benefits in this month, while others are at risk if they do not follow the doctor's advice and apply the necessary recommendations.

What are the different conditions of heart patients? And what are the most important tips for dealing with fasting during Ramadan?

Cases where fasting is allowed:

Cardiology consultant Ghassan Nouh explained that heart patients with a stable health condition can fast during Ramadan without any health problems, especially if they adhere to a healthy diet and consult the doctor to determine medication schedules and appropriate dosages. He added that fasting has many benefits in this case and contributes to:

Reducing the rate of heart failure.

Lowering blood pressure.

Reducing bad cholesterol levels, thereby lowering the chance of atherosclerosis.

Weight loss for heart patients.

Reducing the incidence of heart insufficiency.

Increasing the level of high-density lipoprotein known as good cholesterol.

Reducing the chance of vascular sclerosis.

Necessary tips to ensure safe fasting:

Dr. Ghassan Nouh, cardiology consultant, emphasized the necessity for heart patients to consult their doctor before Ramadan and follow the necessary advice, most notably:

Reducing food quantities and eating in stages.

Avoiding fatty and salty foods.

Drinking at least 8 cups of water daily.

Avoiding sugary drinks.

Ensuring to eat small amounts of food in four stages divided throughout the day.

The necessity of practicing physical exercises such as walking.

Consulting the doctor if experiencing dizziness, rapid heartbeat, or severe fatigue.

Cases in which heart patients are prohibited from fasting:

Patients suffering from recurrent chest pains.

Congestive heart failure patients who suffer from severe fatigue and shortness of breath.

Heart attack patients who usually cannot fast during the six weeks following the heart attack.

Heart surgery patients.

Patients with severe valve stenosis or inflammation.

Patients taking blood-thinning medications.

Patients suffering from arrhythmia.

Patients whose conditions require continuous observation inside the hospital.
