The Calgary Real Estate Board announced that home sales in May decreased by 0.8 percent from last year, with 3,092 properties changing hands, driven by a decline in detached and semi-detached homes at lower price points.

Despite the drop in sales, the Real Estate Board says activity remains 34 percent higher than the long-term trends for this month.

The benchmark price for all types of homes was $605,300 for May - a 9.5 percent increase from the previous year and about 1 percent higher than April.

New listings in Calgary rose by 18.7 percent year-over-year to 4,333 units, with 3,402 units in inventory, a 5.9 percent increase from last year.

Ann-Marie Lurie, chief economist at CREB, stated in a release to CTV News: "So far this year, 905 homes valued over a million dollars have been sold, an increase of 54 percent from last year."

"Homes priced over $1,000,000 now account for more than seven percent of total sales within city limits."
