The heavy rains that fell today, Saturday, January 27, 2024, on the governorates of the Gaza Strip have exacerbated the suffering of hundreds of thousands of displaced people in tents and shelters as the weather low-pressure system continues to affect the Palestinian territories.

These heavy rains flooded thousands of tents and shelters in northern and southern Gaza, and the waters swept through various shelters, causing a real tragedy for the displaced and resulting in material damage to property and covers.

This comes while the displaced suffer from a shortage of blankets, heavy clothing, and heating means needed to face the winter conditions and harsh weather.

Heavy rains have fallen on all areas of the Gaza Strip since last night, amid a significant drop in temperatures.

Also, the Palestinian Civil Defense spokesperson, Mohammad Basal, said, "The heavy rains warn of large floods in many low-lying areas full of displaced tents in Gaza."

Basal stated, "Receiving more than a thousand signals and alerts about flooding of tents and homes in various Gaza governorates," adding, "What hinders the work of civil defense teams is the lack of sufficient fuel quantities to operate rainwater pumps and to move rescue vehicles to flooded areas."

He also pointed out that the displaced in Gaza suffer from extremely poor living and health conditions amid food shortages and rising prices, with fears of the spread of diseases and epidemics among them.
