The Canadian Ministry of Health has issued a recall for oat, banana, and mango cereal products for children from the Gerber brand due to potential contamination with Cronobacter bacteria.
The affected products were sold online and in stores in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and possibly other provinces and territories.
The cereals were sold in 227-gram packages with an expiration date of May 30, 2025.
The Canadian Ministry of Health says that people should not consume the recalled product and should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.
It confirms that food contaminated with Cronobacter bacteria may not look or smell spoiled, but it can still make you sick, and in rare cases, it can cause serious or deadly infections.
It adds that the bacteria can be particularly harmful to newborns and have been associated with severe gastrointestinal infection and sepsis.
